I was considering putting together a collection of consecutively dated French Angels produced from 1848-present but cannot find an 1848-1849 coin, let alone price, anywhere. Why?

A consecutive date set will be difficult as there was a large gap in the Angel's production. The various mints were also not collectively consecutive during these years. Angels were minted in 1848 and 1849 during the second republic. The design was then re-introduced (with slight modification) during the third republic, and dates include 1871 to 1900.

The cost of an 1848 or 1849 can vary, of course, depending on condition and mint of the coin...However, there is currently an 1949 issue offered on vcoins to give you an idea on price

thx...noticed the gap but was intrigued as to the scarcity of availability for purchasing the 48-49 coinage.
